<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>August 22, 2011- Tampa Florida</strong> – Ciccio’s/Water Restaurant in South Tampa, will host a Ciccio’s Cares Night for the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay on Monday, August 29, 2011 starting at 5:30 p.m.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Ciccio’s is inviting their patrons and anyone in Tampa to come in for dinner, drinks and good times on Monday and Ciccio’s will donate 10% of the night’s sales to the Boys &amp; Girls of Tampa Bay.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">“We love Tampa and we love our friends both online and off. To help illustrate that, we’ve decided to start a new promotion within our social network and at Ciccio’s/Water in South Tampa called Ciccio’s Care’s.”</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">For the past six weeks Ciccio’s has been using its Facebook page and email list to promote information about the valuable services that the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay provide to the Tampa Bay community.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The Boys &amp; Girls Clubs believe every child has the potential to be great. In support of this strong conviction, Clubs strive to build driven and independent adults. The Boys &amp; Girls Club family – a community of staff, volunteers, parents, youth and supporters – work together to create a positive place, full of hope and opportunity, for every child.</p>

<p>Ciccio’s began as more of a traditional Italian kitchen. It then morphed into primarily a “California Cuisine” eatery. Ciccio’s latest transformation has been the addition of the Water Unique Sushi menu.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span>Ciccio’s SoHo is now two — nearly three — distinctive restaurants in one. There are plenty of light items on the menu and heavier plates, as well. All are recommended for lining your stomach before a night of serious, SoHo barhopping.<br />

<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span>While restaurants come and go, especially in these tumultuous economic times, Ciccio’s appears locked in for the long haul. The restaurant enjoys a loyal clientele and a strong reputation for affordable quality. Metromix has eaten there numerous times over the years. Not once have we been disappointed with a single aspect of the dining experience.<span> </span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><strong><span>The Drinks: </span></strong></span><span><span>Ciccio’s full-bar has just about anything a serious imbiber could desire, including a fairly substantial wine selection and tasty, homemade red, white and sparkling wine sangria. The only drawback? No happy hour specials. None. Come on, guys. We’re in a recession. How about a glass of that great sangria for less than $8, from, say, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.?</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><strong><span>The Food:</span></strong></span><span><span> Ciccio’s truly offers something for everyone, making it the perfect spot to bring the family or a first date. The California cuisine section of the menu includes uniformly outstanding <strong>fresh wraps</strong>, <strong>stirfrys</strong>, <strong>brick oven thin-crusted pizza</strong>, and <strong>killer salads</strong> like the <strong>Goat Cheese</strong> ($5.95). It’s at once simple and sensational. Generous amount of terrifically tart cheese made from goat’s milk, mixed seasonal greens, crispy, cheery tomatoes, served with a subtlety sweet balsamic vinaigrette. (Add a breast of Ciccio’s excellent grilled chicken for $3.25.)<br />
</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span>Speaking of chicken, the California cuisine “famous entrees” section includes the <strong>Pollo Ricotta</strong> ($14.95), a first-rate, super-filling plate of two, tender chicken breasts covered in creamy, understated garlic-ricotta goodness and a spot-on sherry sauce. A heaping pile of smartly seasoned mashed potatoes accompanies the poultry.<br />
</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span>Enthusiast of old-school pasta dishes should peruse the Ciccio’s &amp; Tony’s part of the menu. That’s where you will find penne four cheeses, linguini and rigatoni dishes. All of them are highly recommended.<br />

The Water Sushi choices equal their older counterparts. There are assorted rolls ranging from the <strong>Alaskan crab-stuffed Volcano</strong> ($12) to the yellowtail-laced <strong>Unicorn Roll</strong> ($8). <strong>The Asian Slaw</strong> ($6.50) looks like a flavorless assembly of tropical foliage. But take one bite and you are unexpectedly inundated with the natural sweetness of mango and honey toasted soy nuts. <strong>The Tuna Tar Tar</strong> ($8) is another winner that takes the diced ahi and covers it a most agreeable avocado-based sauce. The accompanying crispy wonton chips are mighty tasty, too. Still have room for dessert? Go with the <strong>Tiramisu</strong> ($5.25). The light, sugary lady finger, cocoa and whipped egg Italian cake comes with strawberries, grapes, pineapples and guaranteed awesomeness. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>The Damage:</span></strong></span><span><span> Ciccio’s is the best deal in SoHo. Salads are in the $5 range and entrees hover around $15. Most sushi plates can be had for $10. Two people can easily enjoy an adult beverage and a filling dinner for around $50. </span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>The Décor:</span></strong></span><span><span> The medium-sized room has a tile floor, soft blue walls, and a small but classy bar. The rather low ceiling is lined with what appear to be mattresses. It sounds odd, but works. There’s also covered outside seating. Inside, tables are placed a bit too close together for some, but if you’re into eavesdropping — and, really, who isn’t, especially when we’re talking the SoHo set — Ciccio’s offers great fun!</span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>The Crowd: </span></strong></span><span><span>People of basically all ages frequent the establishment — but mostly it’s young and hip, movers and shakers.<span> </span></span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>The Service:</span></strong></span><span><span> Beautiful young women serve you with a smile, quickly and attentively. </span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>The Dress Code:</span></strong></span><span><span> You would feel foolish in shorts, T-shirt and flip-flops. Jeans work, though.</span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>Insider Tips:</span></strong></span><span><span> If you are not super-svelte and under six-feet tall, avoid the seating on the far right upon entering. The booths are tiny.</span></span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span><span> <span><strong><span>Bottom Line: </span></strong></span><span><span>When considering the<strong> </strong>variety and consistent quality of the menu, affordability, location, and service, Ciccio’s easily ranks as one of the top restaurants in Tampa. Many SoHo residents swear by it. Visit, and you probably will, too.</span></span></span></span></p>

<p><strong>The Word:</strong> Very rarely do you hear something bad about this place from anybody. That&#8217;s good, since it sits about a block away from the most famous restaurant and bar in Tampa (Bern&#8217;s). This top location and list of food will pack them in around the clock.</p>
<p><strong>The Spot:</strong> Ciccio&#8217;s looks like a chic, colorful eatery plunked from the West Village of Manhattan. It cools you down with blue decor and black tables and bar. Out with that special someone? Impress your date by reserving the spot inside secluded by curtains. The outer patio, equipped with fountain, is mighty pleasant.</p>
<p><strong>The Juice: </strong>Only Bud and Michelob Light are on draft, and imports such as Peroni, Corona and Kirin are available in bottles. A full liquor bar, straight in front on entering, serves up a slew of martinis and specialty drinks.</p>
<p><strong>The Grub:</strong> Ciccio&#8217;s cooks an amazing mix of cultures &#8212; Italian, Caribbean, Asian, Mediterranean and Latin cuisines that includes sushi, stir-fry and sandwiches at reasonable prices. They touch on anything from basil, tomato and mozzarella skewers to brick-oven pizza. If you can go for it, they&#8217;ve got it.</p>
<p><strong>The Selling Point:</strong> Great for after-work decompression, Ciccio&#8217;s serves some of the best cocktails, coffees, wraps and grouper.</p>

<p>SOHO &#8211; Jeff Gigante thought pizza would pay for his dreams. So the aspiring actor opened a pizzeria in Tallahassee, where he had gone to college.</p>
<p>The business failed, and Gigante moved to New York in 1992 with a little less than he had expected. Like many actors, he began waiting tables.</p>

Coastal was co-owned by James Lanza, who had worked on Wall Street auditing brokerage firms. He co-owned six restaurants.</p>
<p>Gigante&#8217;s boss was Luis Flores, who had come to the United States from El Salvador in 1985. Flores had ascended to head chef at Coastal after starting out washing dishes and working in construction.</p>
<p>Flores would ask Gigante where he was from. Gigante would say Tampa because he figured Flores wasn&#8217;t familiar with St. Petersburg, his actual hometown.</p>
<p>Then he would add: &#8220;Someday we&#8217;re going to open a restaurant there.&#8221;</p>
<p>From dishrags to riches, the prediction came true. Flores, Gigante and Lanza have opened not one but four restaurants in Tampa and St. Petersburg in the past decade, including the adjoining Ciccio &amp; Tony&#8217;s and Water restaurants on S Howard Avenue.</p>
<p>They aren&#8217;t done yet. The team is reshaping the ever-changing SoHo neighborhood one restaurant at a time. Up next, a Mexican themed restaurant and sports bar in the former Primadonna Trattoria and a diner in the Old Meeting House.</p>
<p>After a failed stint in Carrollwood, the three know where their bread is buttered.</p>
<p>&#8220;The neighborhood is what makes us survive,&#8221; Lanza said.</p>

<p>Lanza, 45, has the deep pockets of the three. As Gigante rose up the ranks in Lanza&#8217;s New York restaurants &#8211; he was a baker at the original Ciccio &amp; Tony&#8217;s, named after Lanza&#8217;s brother and father &#8211; the two grew closer. During his first go-around running a pizza place, Gigante found that Lanza had the business savvy and a good feel for trends.</p>
<p>Gigante wanted another shot at running a restaurant, this time near his home in Tampa. He persuaded Lanza to invest and scout locations.</p>
<p>In 1996, they opened Ciccio &amp; Tony&#8217;s at 1015 S Howard. Gigante ran it while Lanza traveled between New York and Tampa, and soon moved to Tampa full time. Both live in South Tampa.</p>
<p>Lanza, the father of two adult sons, grew up in California and New York. He owns a black-rimmed 500 horsepower silver Ford Lightning truck, a Porsche 911 Turbo and a Confederate motorcycle. Full of wit, he&#8217;s also a fast talker.</p>
<p>&#8220;James is atmosphere and energy,&#8221; Gigante said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t have the flair for design and business that he has.&#8221;</p>
<p>Gigante, 37, is a muscular man with a big grin. He&#8217;s quality control. He oversees daily operations and is picky about the details.</p>
<p>When the crew remodeling one of the trio&#8217;s restaurants wondered whether a forklift was needed to move an ice cream machine, Gigante got the call. He&#8217;s the first to point out that Water&#8217;s zebra-styled tables are wearing down and unacceptably dirty.</p>
<p>Raised by a single mother, Gigante is more of a realist, who sometimes fights Lanza &#8220;all the way.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re like brothers, honestly,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We know each other like that. We argue with each other. We laugh with each other.&#8221;</p>
<p>Flores, 45, is the father of two children and lives in Carrollwood. He sports a shaved head and chef&#8217;s white coat. He is in charge of the menus, which constantly change and fuse new flavors.</p>
<p>Together, the three have opened Water and Ciccio &amp; Tony&#8217;s on S Howard, in Tampa Palms and St. Petersburg.</p>
<p>The Carrollwood restaurant on Dale Mabry closed in late 2002, marking Gigante and Lanza&#8217;s biggest and most expensive failure. They never expected North Tampa customers to demand free side salads and $6.99 dinners, they said.</p>
<p>Since then, the team has looked to expand in St. Petersburg and double efforts in SoHo, where people don&#8217;t mind paying a bit more, they said.</p>
<p>Recently, they were outbid by Chipotle Mexican Grill to take over Ho Ho Chinese Restaurant&#8217;s space on S Howard, Lanza said.</p>
<p>But they&#8217;re plenty busy without it, transforming the old Primadonna Trattoria, across from Xtreme Total Health &amp; Fitness, into a yet-to-be-named sports bar with Mexican food. Next door, they&#8217;re reopening the Old Meeting House as Daily Eats Meeting House, a gourmet diner featuring Kobe beef, organic turkey, lamb, tuna and Greek burgers, among other spiced-up comfort food.</p>
<p>The Meeting House is expected to open as early as mid December. The sports bar is scheduled to open in March.</p>
<p>The team&#8217;s faith in S Howard has been rewarded over the past 10 years, and they say they&#8217;re not afraid to continue to invest there. They don&#8217;t feel they&#8217;re saturating the market with their products because each of their restaurants is different.</p>
<p>Despite owning three Ciccio &amp; Tony&#8217;s restaurants, they consider themselves the antithesis of a chain.</p>
<p>&#8220;We feel that the more independent restaurants and restaurateurs on S Howard will create a synergy and a different energy than the chains on Dale Mabry,&#8221; Gigante said.</p>
<p>Becoming a main force on Tampa&#8217;s Restaurant Row hasn&#8217;t been without struggles.</p>
<p>While many root for the return of a neighborhood diner, at least 10 neighbors oppose the Meeting House&#8217;s application for a beer and wine license.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m afraid they&#8217;re going to stay open all night long,&#8221; said Greta Brooks, 37, a mother of two, who lives on nearby Bristol Avenue.</p>
<p>In response, Lanza said they will restrict alcohol sales to 11 p.m. The issue is scheduled to go before the City Council on Thursday. The Mexican restaurant is set to go to the council Dec. 1.</p>
<p>Lanza understands neighbors&#8217; fears about more bars along Howard.</p>
<p>&#8220;The problem is these bars are open till 3 a.m. and the kids come from St. Pete or wherever and leave beer cans all over,&#8221; Lanza said.</p>
<p>With four restaurants planned for the strip, their vision for SoHo has a lot of clout.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think what Jimmy&#8217;s (Lanza) doing is cutting edge, and he&#8217;s going to do it well,&#8221; said Gordon Davis, owner of two SoHo restaurants and founder and past president of the SoHo Merchants and Residents Association.</p>
<p>The trio is confident SoHo and its customers will respond.</p>
<p>&#8220;They accept creativity very well. It fits our niche,&#8221; Lanza said. &#8220;Our niche: people who appreciate something different.&#8221;</p>
